Project Masterplan Details
Charlton Riverside is located in south east London in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and lies within the Thames Gateway. It covers just over 120 hectares and is bounded by the River Thames to the north, Warspite Road to the east, Woolwich Road to the south, and Horn Link Way/Peartree Way to the west. It includes part of Charlton Church Lane that leads past Charlton railway station. The area is home to around 350 different businesses covering a range of industrial sectors which include strategically important aggregates industries on the western edge of the site, two small groups of housing at Derrick and Atlas Gardens, some education uses at its eastern end, Eastmoor Street Park and the iconic Thames Barrier.
Charlton Riversides rich industrial history will help to shape the planned new neighbourhoods, integrating the planned residential development with the modern industrial and office developments whilst creative additional employment opportunities. It will consist of a mixture of medium-rise housing and family homes alongside a network of streets and open spaces which will reflect the existing historical pattern of paths and boundaries within the project area. This will create a healthy environment that will encourage walking over car use thereby creating an environment that encourages children to play outside and provides both residents and visitors the opportunity of a varied and attractive selection of leisure, recreation and social activities. Development will include the provision of new schools and facilities. Improvements to both Charlton and Woolwich Road Stations will help to forge links between the new development and the rest of Charlton.
